As you know, over the last few months, Apple has been implementing changes to its App Store guidelines. The last update of 2017 brought some clarity regarding publishing event apps using your own Apple Developer Account.
We recently learned that Apple has amended these same guidelines (sections 4.2.6 & 4.3) to further clarify the use of branded apps. Our goal has always been to be transparent and straightforward, so let’s talk about how these new changes impact you directly:
- Apps currently under Attendify’s developer account will no longer be grandfathered with respect to version updates. Consequently, any apps in our developer account can only be updated until April 1, 2018. To receive updates after April 1, 2018, branded apps in our account will have to be transitioned to each individual content owner’s account to be eligible for updates after April 1, 2018.
- Attendify will not be able to transfer multiple “One-Event” apps into a single developer account. This means that if you, the content owner, have multiple “One-Event” apps, they will need to be consolidated into a multi-event app when transferred to your developer account.
We realize that this may cause uncertainty and frustration, but we’ve got you covered! Here are our recommendations:
First and foremost, if having a branded app isn’t absolutely essential, we strongly recommend moving all your events to our new Attendify app. Not only are all the same great features included, but the app makes it incredibly easy to find events, check-in, and publishing your event is immediate. It’s fast, easy, and a great experience for your attendees.
One-Event App Clients
For organizations that only hold one event per year, and your event is scheduled prior to April 1, 2018, no action is required. Your app will be unaffected and can stay published under our account; we’ll remove it from the App Store once your event is over.
If your event is scheduled after April 1, 2018, and you only hold one event per year, Attendify will transfer your app to your own developer account and we’ll cover the $99 cost to join the Apple Developer program for the first year.
For those clients who currently have several One-Event apps, or if you intend to run multiple events over the course of the next year, Attendify will offer you a free multi-event app subscription for the first year. We’ll also help you migrate any existing One-Event apps into that new multi-event container.
Multi-Event App Clients
If you purchased a multi-event app prior to December 31, 2017, Attendify will cover the cost of your Apple Developer account for the first year and we’ll also assist in transferring the app to your developer account.
Both Single and Multi-Event App Clients
Clients who own several types of apps will work with our team on a case-by-case basis to consolidate your events into one multi-event app. Attendify will cover the first year of your Apple Developer license.
We understand that these past few months have been filled with ambiguity as a result of several changes Apple has introduced, but our team is focused and ready to make each transition as easy for our clients as possible.
